CU-CIRTL Mission

CU-CIRTL is part of the national CIRTL Network (NSF DUE #: 1231286)

The Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL) is a National Science Foundation-funded initiative committed to advancing the teaching of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and social, behavioral, and economic disciplines in higher education. As a member of the national CIRTL Network, Cornell University participates in a group of 43 research universities that collaboratively offer programs preparing graduate students and postdocs to excel in academic STEM careers.

Mission

The mission of Cornell University’s Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CU-CIRTL) is to prepare graduate students and postdocs - broadly speaking - for the future professoriate, with a focus on three areas: evidence-based practice of teaching in higher education, inclusive teaching and learning, and mentoring undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs. In collaboration with the Center for Teaching Excellence, we provide in-person seminars and workshops and support learning communities at Cornell for graduate students, postdocs, staff and faculty. We also offer unique opportunities for networking and collaboration with faculty and students from across the 43 CIRTL Network institutions. CU-CIRTL, sponsored through the Graduate School, supports the university’s strategic initiative to create a culture in support of teaching across campus.
