Teaching

Most students will teach at some point during your graduate school experience.  Teaching is a skill that can be developed.  Cornell has a number of programs that can help develop and support your teaching skills.

Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE)

The Center for Teaching Excellence offers workshops, forums, and resources for teaching assistants.  Workshops are generally between 90 minutes and a half day and provide an excellent opportunity for interdisciplinary discussions on teaching.   CTE also has materials available on course design and syllabus development.

International Teaching Assistant Program (ITAP)

Cornell requires that all international graduate students whose first language is not English, and who will serve at the university in a teaching capacity, pass a language screening interview and, if required, also successfully complete language classes, before a Teaching Assistant position can be held. This mandate applies to all students, new and continuing, who perform a teaching function, as well as to those whose duties include any direct contact with students in an instructional context.

Graduate Student Outreach Project (Cornell Public Service Center)

Graduate Student Outreach Project is a graduate student initiative that links the university to local schools, where graduate students prepare and present mini-courses. Graduate students can practice their teaching skills while making a difference in the lives of local students.
