OISE Engage Lunch with Kevin Gaines
Join us for the OISE Engage Lunch with Kevin Gaines, W.E.B. Du Bois Professor of Africana Studies and History at Cornell University. Kevin’s interests include U.S. and African American intellectual and cultural history; race and gender politics in post-World War II America; and global dimensions of the African American freedom movement.
He is the author of Uplifting the Race: Black Leadership, Politics, and Culture During the Twentieth Century. His book, American Africans in Ghana: Black Expatriates and the Civil Rights Era was a Choice Outstanding Academic Title. Kevin is also a past President of the American Studies Association (2009-10) and has lectured at universities throughout the U.S., as well as internationally.
In his spare time, Kevin likes listening to and playing music. From 1987 to 1991 he was Jazz Director at WBRU-FM in Providence, Rhode Island, and on-air host of jazz, blues, and reggae programs.
