Question

Dear Deans,

I have just read your latest announcements – special edition. I would just like to say thank you for being so open, transparent, and supportive during this whole process.

I was compelled to write you a thank you note after reading the question from the Disappointed Graduate Student who states “I am an adult. I am smart.” Regardless of what opinion you hold, such a rudely and immaturely stated question is a poor reflection of the student who emailed the question and an embarrassment to all graduate students at Cornell.

I am so sorry that you have to answer such immature questions. I just wanted to let you know that there are graduate students who appreciate your hard work.

Have a great weekend.

Best regards,

Appreciative Graduate Student

Response

Dear Appreciative Graduate Student,

Thank you for your Ask a Dean submission.

I’m glad to learn you perceive the Graduate School team is being open, transparent, and supportive through this whole process. We have a great staff, and a dedicated leadership team of associate and assistant deans whose life work is to enable each graduate student to have a positive, successful academic and student life experience.

I realize that in this environment tempers flare, accusations are made, and not everyone will perceive the Graduate School as being supportive. We are doing our best to communicate honestly and openly with graduate students, based on facts.

I hope everyone who has a question that could be addressed through Ask a Dean will feel comfortable submitting, or will reach out privately to me, Jason, Jan, Sara, or Janna. We will do our best to respond.

Thanks again for your note of appreciation.

Warm regards,

Barb
