Is there a possibility of extending the deadlines for students graduating in August?

Date: May 2020

Question

Dear deans,

I hope this email finds you well. I am a second-year M.S. student and an incoming Ph.D. student this fall. I recognize that the Graduate School extended the M.S. thesis submission deadlines for students graduating in May already, and I’m writing to explore the possibility of extending the deadlines for students graduating in August as well.

I understand the original draft submission deadline to the committee is approaching soon (1st week of June), so if you would be able to give some quick clarifications, that would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Almost a Ph.D. Student

Response

Dear Almost a Ph.D. Student,

The deadline for submitting your final thesis to the Graduate School is August 1st if you wish to receive an August degree. All deadlines in advance of that date can be modified with your committee’s approval. If you need a bit more time to provide them with your drafts please contact them to see if they can offer some flexibility. However, it’s important to allow them enough time to carefully read and comment on your draft. It’s far better to receive their feedback well before the August 1st deadline so you would have time to make any edits or revisions they require.

I hope you are safe and well!
