Will parking be enforced through tickets now that undergraduates are gone again?

Date: December 2020

Question

Hi Deans:

This year, before the undergrads came back, parking was not enforced through the issuance of tickets. This was helpful for grad students who have a long commute and who do not feel comfortable riding the buses. Now that undergrads are gone again, is there a plan to reimplement this policy until their return?

Thanks,

Concerned about parking

Dear Concerned about parking,

I reached out to Cornell Transportation with your question regarding parking enforcement until return of the undergraduate students. Here’s the response that I received:

“We have decided to extend our parking holiday to address the issues you mention. We will lift parking restrictions starting this coming Monday (12/14) through January 17. We are in the process of posting the announcement to our website, but I’ve included it below for reference until then.”

In order to relieve the burden on Cornell community members who must be on campus during the staff winter break period, Transportation Services will not enforce regular parking permit restrictions, with the exception of a few areas, December 14, 2020, through January 17, 2021. Parking permits and pay station/mobile payments will not be required in most campus parking spaces during this period.

Cornell Transportation Services will continue to enforce fire lanes, loading zones, time-limited spaces, no parking areas, and accessible, MT, and reserved spaces. Please comply with Winter parking restrictions, in effect from December 1 to April 1.

Please contact Cornell Transportation (607-255-4600, transportation@cornell.edu) if you have any questions, and have a safe and happy winter break.

Best wishes.

Sincerely,

Kathryn Boor
Dean of the Graduate School and Vice Provost for Graduate Education
