They will share how they reframed their doctoral training\, presented their skills in application materials and interviews\, and found work aligned with their interests and values. \nThe event features a moderated panel and followed by small group breakout conversations\, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and learn from alumni in a more personable setting. \nThis event is open to all graduate students\, postdoctoral scholars\, and alumni. \nFeatured Alumni: \nMark Barber\, Ph.D. Philosophy | Head of Product at XQ Message \n \nMark Barber is a product leader with a PhD in analytic philosophy and currently serves as Head of Product at XQ Message. He has spent much of his career working with emerging technologies\, including blockchain\, smart cities\, asynchronous education\, and cybersecurity. Today\, he leads a product group building and delivering enterprise software into high-security environments\, with responsibility spanning product strategy\, commercialization\, and taking complex security and compliance products from concept through deployment. Before moving into technology\, Mark taught philosophy at the university level\, giving him firsthand experience of the transition from academia into industry\, and he has since been actively involved in promoting academic engagement within industry\, including chairing a committee focused on non-academic career pathways for philosophers. \nLinda Louie\, Ph.D. Translation Studies\, Department of French  | Career & Workforce Development Coach & Consultant at Berkeley Lab \n \nLinda Louie is a Career Development Specialist at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab\, and leads a boutique research workforce mobility consultancy. She holds a PhD in Translation Studies from the Department of French at UC Berkeley\, and a BA in Comparative Literature and Linguistic Anthropology from Cornell University. Her work experience spans human rights nonprofits\, higher education\, and government. For the past five years\, she has focused on leadership development for scientists. Highlights of this work include training postdocs to deliver three-minute research talks before members of Congress\, designing and delivering an organization-wide mentoring curriculum\, and convening discussions on AI and scientific data privacy. She has two children\, 3 and 5\, and was raised in Tucson\, AZ.  \nDaniel Singleton\, Ph.D. English\, Film\, & Media Studies | Education & Partnerships Associate at Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh \n \nDan Singleton earned his Ph.D. in English from the University of Rochester and has taught courses in film\, literature\, and writing at colleges across the country\, including the University of Rochester\, the University of Iowa\, and the University of Pittsburgh. More recently\, he has worked for nonprofit organizations in the Pittsburgh area. He believes strongly in using story to foster empathy and civic understanding\, and he is excited to bring his expertise in curriculum design\, Holocaust cinema\, and nonprofit work to the Holocaust Center’s education and community programs. DESCRIPTION:Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a competition for graduate students to develop and showcase their research communication skills. \nThe 2026 final round competition will be held in-person on Wednesday\, March 18\, 2026 in 251 Malott Hall. We will also offer a virtual attendance option by Zoom for those outside of Ithaca. Attend and vote for your favorite presentation for the People’s Choice Award! \n3MT challenges research degree students to present a compelling story on their dissertation or thesis and its significance in just three minutes\, in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. In addition to the first place and second place winners from among the finalists\, audience members on March 18 will be asked to select a People’s Choice Award Winner. \nAll are invited to attend and spectate the final round\, with advance RSVPs requested for Zoom attendance.

Her first design role ‘beyond academia’ was at Xerox. Alongside her industry work\, Betty also teaches art of the Silk Roads and Islamic art at the University of Cincinnati as an adjunct assistant professor. She holds a B.A. and B.F.A. from the University of Cincinnati\, M.A. from New York University\, and doctorate in art history from Cornell University. \n  \n \nRuoji Tang\, Ph.D. ’19 is senior marketing manager at Shovels.ai and was recently senior content marketing manager at Liftoff Mobile and a contributing editor for the Wall Street Journal’s China Magazine. He has served as CTO at The Glimpse Group\, head of product at Alive Home 360\, and led global innovation teams at Autodesk\, driving product strategy\, growth\, and investment. He earned a master’s degree in computer graphics from Cornell University. \n  \n  \n \nMalcolm Bare\, Ph.D. ’21\, is associate director of client solutions at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a technical product manager focused on enterprise AI and EdTech products. He works on delivering digital products that support students\, staff\, and faculty. He earned a doctorate in English language and literature from Cornell University. \n  \n  \nHakan Unsal\, Ph.D. ’07\, is the founder and CEO of Primerli\, an industry-learning platform launched in 2019 to help professionals engage more effectively with clients across industries. He previously spent over a decade at BCG as a management consultant and in learning and development. He earned a doctorate in civil engineering from Columbia University and a M.Eng. in engineering management from Cornell University. \n  \nNaomi Enzinna\, Ph.D. ’18\, is a senior UX researcher and manager of UX research at UserTesting with over 12 years of experience conducting end-to-end qualitative and quantitative research across education\, healthcare\, technology\, financial services\, retail\, and telecommunications. She specializes in accessibility UX research with work focused on identifying and addressing pain points for users with disabilities who rely on assistive technologies.
