SUMMARY:Understanding Your Value | Translating Your Ph.D. Beyond the Faculty Job Market
DESCRIPTION:Your Ph.D. has prepared you for far more than the faculty job market—but how do you communicate that to employers? \nHear from humanities Ph.D. alumni who have built meaningful careers across government\, higher education\, nonprofit\, and corporate sectors. They will share how they reframed their doctoral training\, presented their skills in application materials and interviews\, and found work aligned with their interests and values. \nThe event features a moderated panel and followed by small group breakout conversations\, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and learn from alumni in a more personable setting. \nThis event is open to all graduate students\, postdocs\, and alumni. \nFeatured Alumni: \nMark Barber\, Ph.D. Philosophy | Head of Product at XQ \n \nBio coming soon! \nLinda Louie\, Ph.D. Translation Studies\, Department of French  | Career & Workforce Development Coach & Consultant at Berkeley Lab \n \nLinda Louie is a Career Development Specialist at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab\, and leads a boutique research workforce mobility consultancy. She holds a PhD in Translation Studies from the Department of French at UC Berkeley\, and a BA in Comparative Literature and Linguistic Anthropology from Cornell University. Her work experience spans human rights nonprofits\, higher education\, and government. For the past five years\, she has focused on leadership development for scientists. Highlights of this work include training postdocs to deliver three-minute research talks before members of Congress\, designing and delivering an organization-wide mentoring curriculum\, and convening discussions on AI and scientific data privacy. She has two children\, 3 and 5\, and was raised in Tucson\, AZ.  \nDaniel Singleton\, Ph.D. English\, Film\, & Media Studies | Education & Partnerships Associate at Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh \n \nDan Singleton earned his Ph.D. in English from the University of Rochester and has taught courses in film\, literature\, and writing at colleges across the country\, including the University of Rochester\, the University of Iowa\, and the University of Pittsburgh. More recently\, he has worked for nonprofit organizations in the Pittsburgh area. He believes strongly in using story to foster empathy and civic understanding\, and he is excited to bring his expertise in curriculum design\, Holocaust cinema\, and nonprofit work to the Holocaust Center’s education and community programs. Dan lives in Squirrel Hill with his wife\, daughter\, and two cats.
