SUMMARY:Ph.D. Hooding Photos Prior to Recognition Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:The Graduate School invites our May Ph.D. graduates and their advisors to Barton Hall for the opportunity to have a professional photographer capture images of the ceremonial hooding prior to the formal Ph.D. Recognition Ceremony on May 27\, 2023. Photos will be shared with graduates free of charge in the days following Commencement. \nThe doctoral hooding\, in which a faculty member places the hood over the shoulders of the graduate\, signifies the graduate’s success in completing their graduate program. \nPhotographers and photo backdrops will be available between 2:45 and 4:30 p.m. in Barton Hall\, near the Garden Avenue end of the building. Hundreds of doctoral graduates will be recognized at the event\, so please plan to arrive early to avoid a last-minute rush to take your photos. The photographers will not be available following the formal Ph.D. Recognition Ceremony\, but you may take photos yourself with your advisor after the ceremony. \nGraduates are free to invite their advisors or another committee member to perform the hooding. In addition\, Dean of the Graduate School and Vice Provost for Graduate Education\, Kathryn Boor\, will be available from 3:45-4:30 to hood graduates whose advisors are unable to attend. Graduates should wear their appropriate cap\, gown\, and hood. DESCRIPTION:NextGen Professors is a career-development program focused on preparing Cornell graduate students and postdocs for faculty careers across institutional types. The primary audience for this program is doctoral students (in year three or beyond) and postdocs with a demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity\, inclusion\, access\, and equity in academia\, including but not limited to those from backgrounds historically underrepresented in the professoriate. Participants are members of a cohort who\, together\, engage in a series of professional and career development activities including monthly NextGen Professors meetings\, Power Mentoring Sessions with faculty\, and the Future Professors Institute. Participants also engage in program offerings of Future Faculty and Academic Careers\, which focus on effectively integrating research and teaching skills for career development.

DESCRIPTION:The Building Allyship Series is a collaboration of the Graduate and Professional Student Diversity Council and the Graduate School Office of Inclusion and Student Engagement (OISE). \nThis series provides an opportunity for members of the Cornell community to gain insights into the depth and breadth of identities and experiences represented within our graduate community and engage in productive dialogue focused on fostering a greater understanding of the many aspects of critical allyship and its practice. \nEach event seeks to create a safe space for critical dialogue where we can bridge gaps in knowledge\, learn from each other\, and create understanding without fear of judgment.

DESCRIPTION:Topic: Pathways to Becoming an Inclusive Mentor  \nNextGen Professors is a career-development program focused on preparing Cornell graduate students and postdocs for faculty careers across institutional types. The primary audience for this program is doctoral students (in year three or beyond) and postdocs with a demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity\, inclusion\, access\, and equity in academia\, including but not limited to those from backgrounds historically underrepresented in the professoriate. Participants are members of a cohort who\, together\, engage in a series of professional and career development activities including monthly NextGen Professors meetings\, Power Mentoring Sessions with faculty\, and the Future Professors Institute. Participants also engage in program offerings of Future Faculty and Academic Careers\, which focus on effectively integrating research and teaching skills for career development.
