Turn Your Science into Prose: An Op-Ed Writing Workshop (Ivy+ Open Access Professional Development Series)

November 4 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Your voice matters, and op-eds are a powerful way to shape public conversation. In this workshop you will learn to turn your research into clear, and compelling prose that can be read, enjoyed, and understood by readers outside the academy. Participants in this workshop are expected to arrive with a body of research or experiences that they want to convey to a broad public, meaning you should come to the workshop with some ideas for an “op-ed” (or, a contributed opinion piece).

We’ll explore what editors look for, how to connect your argument to current events, and how to write with clarity and authority. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with:

  • A detailed outline of your own op-ed
  • A clear understanding of op-ed structure
  • Strategies for pitching outlets

This is best suited for graduate students in any science area including social sciences.
