This is a local discussion group meeting for the online course Advancing Learning through Evidence-Based STEM Teaching offered through EdX by the CIRTL Network and starting February 4, 2019. We will meet in person to discuss the prior week’s online content.

Advancing Learning through Evidence-Based STEM Teaching prepares science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) instructors to develop and implement teaching practices that advance the learning experiences and outcomes of both students and teachers. Participants will learn about effective teaching strategies and the research that supports them, including active learning and flipped classroom approaches.

This eight-week course draws on the expertise of STEM faculty, educational researchers, and staff from university teaching centers, many of them affiliated with the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL), a network of 40 research universities collaborating in the preparation of STEM graduate students and postdocs as future faculty members. There are opportunities for peer-to-peer learning, both online and within Cornell, as we also offer local discussion groups around the course content (contact Colleen McLinn at cirtl@cornell.edu for information).

This course will be offered via EdX from February 4, 2019 – March 29, 2019. Learn more at: https://cirtl.cornell.edu/courses/massive-open-online-courses/
