NYAS: Build Your All Star Resume and LinkedIn Profile

February 11, 2019 @ 3:30 pm - 9:00 pm

  • This event has passed.

What does a hiring manager look for in a resume? What is the best way to communicate technical and transferable skills to a mixed audience? Does your resume showcase not just what you do, but who you are and why an employer should want to hire you?

A good resume tells an interesting story that is customized to the employer’s needs. The more intriguing the resume, the more likely an employer will schedule an interview and make a job offer. The key is to construct an impactful, concise, employer-relevant story that clearly articulates your value to an organization, and demonstrates a perfect fit for the job. This workshop provides tips and best practices for creating an effective resume that will entice employers.

Similarly, networking is the primary way to get your foot in the door at a company and LinkedIn is a perfect tool to help you get there. LinkedIn is the most popular social media platform used by professionals to network, establish collaborations and find jobs. “LinkedIn Recruiter” software allows recruiters to sift through thousands of profiles to find the most appealing candidates for open positions. Maintaining a strong profile, using LinkedIn to network, and understanding how companies use LinkedIn to source candidates is essential for all users. Regardless of what stage you are in your career, early career or seasoned, it’s imperative to understand how to use all of LinkedIn’s features and how you can benefit from these best practices to grow professionally, enhance your career, and be prepared for new career opportunities – now, or in the future.

All of these questions will be answered with clear direction and advice from a PhD hiring manager during this workshop so that you can learn how to separate yourself from the masses that are applying for desirable positions and start getting interviews.

The workshop will focus on the following:

  • Building a strong personal LinkedIn profile,
  • Learning how recruiters use LinkedIn tools to identify candidates for open positions,
  • Improving the chances of being found by recruiters on LinkedIn
  • Using LinkedIn as a networking tool,
  • Using sophisticated LinkedIn searches to find companies offering jobs of interest.
