Undergraduate and graduate students, post docs, and mid career science professionals: Have you considered the range of jobs available in education? Come hear about the myths, realities and options available to those who are thinking about teaching and how one may change their focus research and industry to education.

This panel will highlight the realities of a career change and the opportunities available to scientists who are thinking about a career in teaching. Our guests will include scientists who have transitioned from research and industry to education after participating in an afterschool STEM outreach program at a local school or through a teaching fellowship such as the NYC Teaching Fellows program. In addition, the panel will consist of an expert representing a funding organization whose mission is to support the pipeline of the STEM degree holders who go on to teach at public schools and a representative from a local government-sponsored program that prepares career changes to become exceptional teachers. Together they will discuss what it’s really like to teach in public schools, the shift in culture from a lab to a classroom, and the programs that will help prepare you to get there.
