NYAS Webinar: Conversation with Dr. Malika Grayson

February 5, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

  • This event has passed.

In her recently published first book Hooded, Dr. Malika Grayson offers an account of surviving and thriving as a doctoral candidate in STEM. Written for those who have never seen themselves represented in their chosen career, Hooded provides practical survival strategies, mental health tips, and ideas for creating community and leaving a lasting legacy. This essential resource was written so those with a passion for STEM—but who may not have mentors or role models who look like them to help guide them on this career path—won’t feel quite as alone.

Dr. Grayson is an engineer based in Virginia. She grew up in Trinidad and Tobago, but left at the age of 19 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Adelphi University and a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University. As a speaker and STEM advocate, Dr. Grayson has shared her experiences about being a Black Woman in STEM in order to inspire others that they, too, can pursue their dream.

Join us for a conversation with Dr. Grayson, where she will tell us more about her journey. The one-on-one talk will be followed by a Q&A session where attendees can ask their own questions directly to our guest.
