October 9, 2020 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

  • This event has passed.

Systemic Inequities in STEM have impacted the diversity and inclusive practices within academic institutions.

Over 80-85% of faculty representation is white males, while the representation of individuals receiving PhDs – “The STEM pipeline” – is becoming more diverse, with over 45% of women and about 15% of people of color receiving their PhDs. While this is a trend in the right direction, but to systematically initiate changes we need to identify solutions that are bottom-up and top-down in its approach.

To learn more about approaches currently being taken, this webinar features speakers from Georgetown University Medical Center who will discuss their Bias Reduction and Improvement Coaching (BRIC) program. The program employs strategies to increase awareness of unconscious bias and mitigate the systemic barriers at an institutional level.

During this webinar, you’ll hear from our on the following topics:
  1. Impacts of bias on recruitment, retention and advancement of employees and workplace culture
  2. Strategies to create a learning environment to facilitate conversations on biases
  3. How to develop a human-centered “train the trainer” approach to overcome systemic inequities
