The CNY Humanities Corridor “Humanities Beyond the Academy” working group hosts a series of mini-residencies for publicly engaged humanistic scholars, bringing together those interested in public humanities and careers outside the academy. Current mini-resident Leonard Cassuto, author of The Graduate School Mess: What Caused It and How We Can Fix It and (with Robert Weisbuch) The New PhD: How to Build a Better Graduate Education, offers a discussion focused on this topic.
Scholars and authors Leonard Cassuto and Robert Weisbuch argue that universities need to undergo major reforms to their graduate training programs to improve career outcomes for humanities doctoral students. In this discussion, they focus in particular on how proponents of change can find allies and overcome resistance to reform.
Cornell University, Syracuse University and University of Rochester are collaborating to bring these mini-residencies together for Humanities PhDs and Postdocs. Register for Building a Better Graduate Education
