Student and Alumni Surveys

The Graduate School conducts five surveys on a regular schedule. Although we endeavor to share survey findings broadly, results are never reported in a manner that would personally identify an individual.

Graduate Students Admitted but Not Attending

Sent to individuals who have declined an offer of admission to any of the degree programs administered by the Graduate School (N≈1,300). Administered every fall; response rate 59%.

New Graduate Students

Sent to newly admitted students who have just begun a master’s or doctoral program in the Graduate School (N≈1,500). Administered every fall; response rate 55%.

Doctoral Experience

Includes doctoral students who have been enrolled for at least four terms (N≈2,100). Administered every two years with an average response rate of 64%.  Select results, aggregated at the level of academic disciplines, are available under Program Metrics.

Graduate Student Exit

Sent to all Graduate School degree recipients about one month after they graduate (N≈1,200). Excludes students receiving a master’s degree as part of a Ph.D. program. Response rate 61%.

Doctoral Alumni Career Outcomes

All doctoral alumni are surveyed when they are 2, 5, 10, 15, and 20 years post-degree. Response rate 33%. Select results, aggregated at the level of graduate fields, are available under Program Metrics.

Confidentiality

Survey responses are confidential and are never reported in a manner that would personally identify individuals. Identifying information is kept strictly confidential, accessible only to Graduate School assessment staff who follow specific non-disclosure and data privacy protocols. Data privacy is maintained through a combination of limited access, masked identifiers, and reporting in aggregate. Results are not reported for categories containing five or fewer respondents.
