Present Your Research

When interviewing on-site either for an academic position or for a job in industry, government, or with a nonprofit, you likely will be asked to present your research. To prepare:

  • Find out who will be attending the presentation and whether they are knowledgeable about your subject or not, or have varying familiarity with the subject. Make the presentation interesting to all in attendance.
  • Find out what audiovisual equipment will be available. Have handouts in case the equipment fails. Be sure any visual displays are clear and organized.
  • Practice your presentation several times aloud.
  • Be prepared to field questions from the audience. Relax and engage the group in a good discussion.
