Open Assistantship Positions

While most departments and graduate fields prioritize graduate assistantships (teaching assistant (TA), graduate research assistant (GRA), research assistant (RA), graduate assistant (GA)) to their own students, there are some cases where positions are made available for qualified research-degree graduate students from any field.  The Graduate School allows fields to post open assistantships positions here, and will periodically advertise these on the opportunities listserv

Fall 2026

Spanish TA

The Romance Studies department may have one or more openings for a graduate TA in Spanish during the 2026-27 academic year. Prospective TAs need to be fluent in Spanish, and willing to take the pedagogy course below to qualify for a position. The TA package includes tuition, stipend, and health insurance coverage. Graduate students that are interested in teaching a Spanish section should contact Dorothy Lovelace, RS GFA, at DJL353@cornell.edu. The most likely assignment is an introductory language course such as SPAN 1210/1220/1230.

Focuses on language teaching as facilitation of learning, thus on the learner’s processing of language acquisition and the promotion of reflective teaching. Pedagogical approaches will be addressed from a learner-centered perspective involving effective language learning strategies and analysis.
