Cornell is an institutional member of the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity, a nationally recognized, independent organization providing online career development and mentoring resources. The NCFDD provides members with access to tools to increase research and writing productivity and improve work-life balance.  

Activate your account by following the steps below:

  1. Go to the NCFDD website
  2. Under “Select Your Institution,” choose “Cornell University”
  3. Select “Activate my Membership”
  4. Complete the registration form using your Cornell email address
  5. Check your Cornell email account to find a confirmation/welcome email. Click “Activate Account” in the email

Free Individual Association for Women in Science (AWIS) Membership Available for Cornell Graduate Students

Available to all Cornell graduate, professional, and undergraduate students

Cornell University is an institutional partner of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS). Create an account to enjoy a number of professional development programs and services such as newsletters, the AWIS career center, and various webinars. 

Activate your account by following the steps below:

  1. Go to the AWIS website
  2. Set up username and put in first and last name
  3. Click on “accept this membership” and continue
  4. Complete the registration form
  5. Click on the appropriate institution
  6. Certify that you are a graduate/undergraduate student
  7. Click on submit to complete the process

Complimentary One-year Membership with New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS) 

Available to all Cornell students, postdocs, faculty, and staff

Cornell University maintains an institutional membership with the New York Academy of Science (NYAS). Secure a sponsored membership with NYAS to access to various resources such as networking, resource building, and career readiness training.

Free Membership with Versatile Ph.D. for Ph.D. Careers Outside Academia

Available to Cornell graduate students and postdocs

Versatile Ph.D. is an online resource designed to help humanities, social science, and STEM Ph.D.s identify, prepare for, and succeed in non-academic careers. Cornell graduate students have free access to premium resources provided through the university’s subscription to Versatile Ph.D. such as real-life resume and cover letter examples and panel discussion events.

Free Membership with ImaginePh.D. for Ph.D. Career Tools (Designed for Humanities and Social Sciences Graduate Students)

Available to all Cornell students, postdocs, faculty, and staff

ImaginePh.D. is a free online career exploration and planning tool for Ph.D. students and postdoctoral scholars in the humanities and social sciences. Cornell graduate students can 1) conduct online self-assessments to identify skills, interests, and values, 2) explore career paths, 3) develop next steps for career and professional development, and more.

Free Membership with Optimal Resume to Prepare Your Job Search Materials

Optimal Resume is an online resource, which provides sample resumes and cover letters as well as templates to help you create your resume and cover letter. Additionally, you can practice your interviewing skills through the Optimal-Interview tool. Cornell graduate students have free access to these premium resources.

Available to all Cornell students, postdocs, faculty, and staff

GoinGlobal is a great place for international internship or job opportunities. In addition to the job listings, this site provides country and city-specific employment/career guides, which are all developed by local employment experts. This site also has an H1B visa resource, helping international students identify employers historically hired international talent in the United States. 

Utilize all the premium resources by following the steps below:

  • Use Cornell IP address in order to use the Johnson Graduate School of Management (JGSM) account (e.g., computer labs located across campus, Cornell Wi-Fi)
  • Go to the GoinGlobal website

Institutional Membership with Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL) Programs

Available to all Cornell graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and staff, plus Graduate School alumni and recent Cornell postdocs

CIRTL is a North American future faculty preparation effort with branches at nearly 40 universities. Participate in webinars, online courses, and summer teaching institutes on diversity in the college classroom, Individual Development Plans (IDPs), the academic job search, and many additional topics on teaching and research mentoring.

LinkedIn Learning provides access to an online library of high-quality training videos featuring the latest software, creative, and business skills. Access over 11,000 online courses designed for all experience levels. Watch entire courses or individual video tutorials as you need them, and even access the LinkedIn Learning library 24/7 from your mobile device. LinkedIn Learning exercise files, project files, or other informational documents that an instructor uses to teach a course let you follow along with the instruction as you learn, and bookmarks help you keep track of what you’d like to watch later.
