Sage Fellowships Summer Funding to Increase

March 13, 2023

Students receiving Sage Fellowships will see their summer funding increase by an additional $500 above the published rate in summer 2023—a 7.9% increase in the summer Sage Fellowship stipend. The additional summer funding will impact 500 students.

“Cornell is committed to supporting our graduate students and to providing the resources they need to make progress in their degree programs,” said Kathryn J. Boor, dean of the Graduate School and vice provost for graduate education.

Cornell has implemented a set of requirements that will help to ensure graduate students have adequate funding support for the duration of their degree programs, including summers when they are expected to make academic progress.

“We understand that the cost of living has increased since the summer 2023 fellowship rates were set over a year ago, and we want our students to be able to immerse themselves in their studies—whether it be traveling for fieldwork, conducting archival research, or writing a dissertation chapter—without undue financial stress,” said Dean Boor.

Sage Fellowships are offered to applicants in the humanities and humanistic social sciences at the time of admission and include funding for students’ first and dissertation years as well as four summers. Fellowships provide stipend, tuition, and individual health insurance.
