Two Cornell Alumni Named Schmidt Science Fellows

Xiangkun (Elvis) Cao and Berit GoodgeChosen from among exceptional early-career scientists from around the world, alumni Xiangkun (Elvis) Cao, Ph.D. ’21, and Berit H. Goodge, Ph.D. ’22, were selected as 2022 Schmidt Science Fellows to support their work in making discoveries that will enhance the quality of life for all.

Hui ZhouHui Zhou is a doctoral candidate in applied economics and management from Wuhan, China. She attended Hohai University in China as an undergraduate and now studies environmental economics with a focus on policies aiming to reduce vehicle emissions.

Geological Sciences Ph.D. Student Selected for Amelia Earhart Fellowship

Sara MillerSara Miller, a third-year Ph.D. student in geological sciences, was selected for a 2022 Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship. Miller is one of 30 women across the world to receive one of the $10,000 awards in 2022 and will be presented with a set of wings from the Zonta International Foundation in the fall.


Astronomy Ph.D. Candidate Awarded FINESST Fellowship

Trevor FooteTrevor Foote, a fourth-year astronomy and space sciences doctoral candidate, was recently awarded a 2022 FINESST Fellowship to investigate the use of transition-edge sensors for high-precision characterization of exoplanet atmospheres. The Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science Technology (FINESST) Fellowship will provide $100,000 to fund his final two years.
